Test drive | Equation Leopard Car Leopard 5: Not extreme enough but with personality

There is no need to say how hot this year’s square box models are, and there are many people with strong off-road ability.

BYD’s Equation Leopard car is a brand-new professional and personalized brand for off-road wave. Its first model, Leopard 5, shoulders the heavy responsibility of showing the "off-road core".

Recently, the venue test drive of Equation Leopard’s "Leopard Force Experience Day" Shanghai Station allowed us to get a glimpse of the leopard and test whether the car was "hard-core" from the dimension of "off-road passability".

In this test drive, we experienced the model of Equus Leopard 5 Pilot with a price of 309,800 yuan. The power parameters are the same as those of the Exploratory Edition with a price of 289,800 yuan and the flagship Edition with a price of 352,800 yuan. The power system is composed of a 1.5T engine and two front and rear motors. The comprehensive maximum power of the system is 505kW(687Ps), and the maximum comprehensive torque reaches 760n m..

In addition, as a hybrid model, Leopard 5 is equipped with a blade battery with a capacity of 31.8kW·h, which supports 100kW DC fast charging, and the charging time of 30% to 80% is 16 minutes. In addition, the maximum power of 20kW in-situ power generation and the comprehensive endurance performance of more than 1200km also demonstrate its pursuit of off-road and long-distance positioning to some extent.

When it comes to off-road performance, the parameters of Leopard 5 are still quite strong. The approach angle of 39, the longitudinal passing angle of 27 and the departure angle of 35 are enough to cope with most steep terrain. The standard intelligent three locks-front differential lock, rear differential lock and energy middle lock can quickly identify the wheel speed difference and independently distribute the driving force to the four wheels. In particular, the energy middle lock can complete the energy transfer of the front and rear axles within 10 milliseconds, which exceeds the reaction speed of the mechanical middle lock and can more easily cope with more complicated off-road scenes.

In the actual field test drive, equation Leopard 5 can cope with large-angle trapezoidal ramp, large-angle climbing, slippery terrain simulated by pulley block and unilateral slope, but the degree of calmness is not comparable to that of ordinary hard-core fuel SUV. Especially, as a vehicle with a curb weight of 2.9 tons, Leopard 5 can stop and start again in the middle of large-angle climbing, and the axle locking speed is quite fast in the face of simulated slippery terrain, which can be said to be "technology changes life".

Strong off-road performance, perhaps not the only "killer" of Leopard 5. As we all know, one of the biggest weaknesses of traditional hard-core SUVs is urban road driving, and its large weight often leads to high fuel consumption. However, the large steering wheel position, slow steering response and tough chassis feedback make many hard-core SUVs have poor urban road driving experience.

However, thanks to the DMO off-road hybrid with electric drive, Equation Leopard 5 can theoretically achieve smooth acceleration and deceleration, and the noise control is far superior to that of traditional fuel off-road vehicles. Due to the integrated design of CTC battery chassis, Equation Leopard 5 can protect the battery between the beams, and at the same time realize the 50:50 axle load distribution and ultra-low body center of gravity, and with the long-stroke front and rear double wishbone independent suspension, realize the stable posture of a comparable car.

For simulating urban road driving, the test drive planned two scenes, namely linear acceleration and S-bend. To be honest, before the actual experience, it’s hard to imagine that a hard-core SUV like Leopard 5, which weighs nearly 2.9 tons, can still break 100 in 4.8 seconds, and it is quite linear while accelerating rapidly, and the body pitch is well controlled. The handling of the S-bend is also relatively calm. The high car height brought by the non-loaded body will still make the Leopard 5 have a certain tilt, but compared with a number of hard-core SUVs, the Leopard 5 has been well controlled.

Observing this Leopard 5 statically, the texture, tough style and stocky figure are impressive.

As for the interior, Leopard 5 embodies another kind of "Leopard Aesthetics". The symbol of "super lock" is displayed everywhere, and the ideal thinking of electricity is integrated into perceptual aesthetics. The lifting gear shift lever and the crystal-like buttons near the gear handle will fill up the mechanical texture, design beauty and ritual sense at the same time. As for the introduction of functions such as 50W wireless fast charging, compressor cooling and heating refrigerator, and FiLink intelligent cockpit, it can be reflected that Leopard 5 is not just a car that pursues "individuality" and "distance" at the expense of experience.

On the whole, as a hard-core SUV of the order of 300,000 yuan, Equus Leopard 5 pursues "comprehensiveness". Oil can be used for electricity, and the wild can be used for cities. It meets the needs of the greatest common divisor as much as possible. Perhaps it is not extreme enough, but it can really make more people show their individuality without sacrificing their daily travel experience.
