BEIJING, Yanbian, Jilin, May 5 (Xu Chuanxiang Yanchangcai) Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau, located in Yanbian Prefecture, Jilin Province, introduced on the 5 th that a male wild Siberian tiger’s footprint was recently discovered in the local area, which is the fourth time in the past year, indicating that the wild Siberian tiger in China has successfully spread from the narrow distribution area on the Sino-Russian border to the west of Changbai Mountain.

According to reports, Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau Reserve Preparation Office received a phone call from Wang Guangyao, a forest frog farmer in Huapi Forest Farm, on the 2nd, saying that he had found the footprints of a suspected tiger. The staff of the reserve preparation office immediately went to the birch forest farm to confirm that it was the footprint of a large male Siberian tiger, with the front paw width of 17 cm, the palm pad width of 11 cm, the palm length of 16 cm, the back paw width of 15 cm, the palm pad width of 10.5 cm and the palm length of 14 cm.

Tianqiaoling forest region is located at the southern foot of Laoyeling branch of Changbai Mountain, adjacent to Muling National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang Province in the north and Wangqing National Nature Reserve in Jilin Province in the east. It is a potential settlement for the expanded population of Northeast Tiger in Hunchun and Wangqing Nature Reserves to find a new home, and also a key ecological corridor for the Northeast Tiger from Russia to spread to the hinterland of Changbai Mountain along the border between Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces.

2015 — In 2016, the distribution and frequency monitoring information of tiger and leopard resources in Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau showed that in March 2015, the footprint of Northeast Tiger was found in Erliugou of Zhangjiadian Forest Farm; In June 2015, the footprint of the Northeast Tiger was discovered in the 25 th forest class of Xinkai Forest Farm; In December 2015, the far-infrared camera of 9 forest classes in Xinkai Forest Farm monitored and photographed the Northeast Tiger; In December 2015, the footprint of the Northeast Tiger was discovered in 20 forest classes of Huapi Forest Farm; On May 2, 2016, the footprint of the Northeast Tiger was found in the 22 nd forest class of Huapi Forest Farm.

Cao Yongfu, director of Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau, analyzed that the Siberian tiger was found here many times, mainly due to the better restoration of the ecological environment, the rapid increase of wild animal populations such as sika deer, elk, roe deer and wild boar, and the formation of the tiger food chain. In addition, Jilin Province completely stopped commercial logging of timber and implemented ecological migration, which ensured the living environment for the Northeast Tiger to inhabit and multiply.

Some experts said that the discovery of the male Amur tiger in Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau indicated that the wild Amur tiger in China had successfully spread from the narrow distribution area on the Sino-Russian border to the west of Changbai Mountain, and also indicated that Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau played a key role in the restoration project of wild Amur tiger in China and an important role in the future provenance diffusion, indicating that the Amur tiger had adapted to the local environment and had lived in this area stably.
