The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Armenian ambassador to Russia to protest against "unfriendly acts"

On September 8, local time, the Russian Foreign Ministry released a message saying that in the context of a series of unfriendly acts in Armenia recently, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Armenian ambassador to Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that it had sent a note to the Armenian ambassador to Russia, and Russia protested against the remarks made by Armenian National Assembly President Simonyan against Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Zacharova. Earlier, Simonyan once called Zacharova "a kind of secretary" in his speech. In addition, during the summoning, the Russian side also mentioned the military exercise between Armenia and the United States and the visit of the Armenian Prime Minister’s wife to Kiev.

In addition, during the summoning, Russia expressed strong wording to the Armenian ambassador on issues such as the military exercise between Armenia and the United States.

Recently, the tension in the Nagorno-Karabakh region has escalated, and Armenia and Azerbaijan have exchanged fire in the border areas. On September 6, Armenia announced that it would hold a joint military exercise with the United States in its territory at the end of September. It is reported that the purpose of this joint exercise includes improving the cooperation ability between the two countries participating in international peacekeeping missions, and exchanging command experience and tactical communication.

Recently, after the tension in the region intensified, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan once said that Russia was "withdrawing from the South Caucasus" and said that he would promote the diversification of Armenia’s security countermeasures. Peskov, Russian Presidential Press Secretary, then responded that Russia could not agree with Prime Minister Ya’s remarks. Russia is an inseparable part of the region and will never leave, and will continue to provide security in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

There has been a long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan because of the ownership of Nagorno-Karabakh. Although the two countries reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in 1994, armed conflicts still occur from time to time. In 2020, after the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict escalated again, Asia and Albania ceased fire under the mediation of Russia, and Russian peacekeeping troops stationed in the region.
